In Depth Study of Tares

1. Tares are Disobedient

Mat 7:20-23 (CEV) "You can tell who the false prophets are by their deeds. v:21 Not everyone who calls me their Lord will get into the kingdom of heaven. Only the ones who obey my Father in heaven will get in. v:22 On the day of judgment many will call me their Lord. They will say, "We preached in your name, and in your name we forced out demons and worked many miracles." v:23 But I will tell them, "I will have nothing to do with you! Get out of my sight, you evil people!"

Many struggle to comprehend what Jesus is teaching but when seen through the lens of tares, the passage becomes easy to understand. The genuine belief in the Lordship of Christ is unveiled by Jesus Himself in that true belief is not what someone says; rather, it is the fruit of their actions. He who does the will of My Father is Jesus’ talk is cheap and can be misleading. Jesus contrasts a person who does God’s will with someone who does not—yet claims Jesus’ name regardless. Lawlessness" The presence of lawless behavior (someone who takes license with scriptural precepts and obedience to them) is evidence of the existence of a false “believer” tares in the church know how to fake it.

Strongs; Greek anomia 458 (indicating a continuous action),disobedience-to-Scriptural law is a continuous, regular action of people who talk like believers but don't act like believers. Lawlessness depicts unrighteousness. Tares will be known not by what they say or profess, but by their fruits; and one of those will be a continuing spirit of disobedience to outside authority.

2. Tares are Pretenders

Acts 5:1-4 "Ananias and his wife Sapphira also sold a piece of property. v:2 But they agreed to cheat and keep some of the money for themselves. So when Ananias took the rest of the money to the apostles, v:3 Peter said, 'Why has Satan made you keep back some of the money from the sale of the property? Why have you lied to the Holy Spirit? v:4 The property was yours before you sold it, and even after you sold it, the money was still yours. What made you do such a thing? You didn't lie to people. You lied to God!' " Ananias and Sapphira were members of the church of Jerusalem, though members, they were not believers, rather pretenders. To fake their spirituality in front of the true believers, they acted in concert with them. Wanting to appear generous, they were instead hypocrites intent on impressing others through deception. Tares are often camouflaged pretenders who lie and cover-up to outwardly come across as spiritual. Tares are characterized by pretending. you will know them by their fruits.

3. Tares are Arrogant

2 Cor 11:14-15 "And it is no wonder. Even Satan tries to make himself look like an angel of light. v:15 So why does it seem strange for Satan's servants to pretend to do what is right? Someday they will get exactly what they deserve." Satan disguises (Greek 3345 metaschematizo) "to change in fashion or appearance," his servants in a cloak so as to appear righteous "Keep in mind that those who portray themselves as a servant of righteousness" will appear as clumsy to true believers. A demeanor stemming from an unbelieving heart lends itself to a legalistic kind of righteousness—an air of superiority often lacking in graciousness toward others.

2 Cor 11:14-15 Is this evidence of a self-righteous, arrogant, "holier-than-thou" spirit. Tares are masqueraders, but if you look carefully and long enough, protruding out from underneath that mask is a smug air of superiority.

4. Tares Falsify Salvation

Gal 1:8 "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. v:9 I have said it before, and I will say it again. I hope God will punish anyone who preaches anything different from what you have already believed." Galatians is descriptive of fully flowered tares. The church at Galatia was engulfed with false teachers that had came in and were deeply rooted. More specifically false teaching was about salvation: the now-in-charge tares falsely and deliberately taught that salvation was not achieved by faith along with works but in Grace alone the old false doctrine of "Once Saved Always Saved, just repent and get Baptized and your good to go."

5. Tares Battle Incorrectly

Eph 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Tares desire believers to be consumed by fights other than spiritual ones. If the ultimate battle is a spiritual one, then the one who is spiritually immature or spiritually unarmed cannot effectively fight in it. Eph 6:13-20 "Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. v:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; v:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; v:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. v:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: v:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; v:19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, v:20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak."

Spiritual maturity is the transcendent quality necessary for spiritual battle in the ultimate sense of the fight—a fight that babes in Christ, cannot effectively participate in 1Co 3:1-3 "My friends, you are acting like people of this world. That's why I could not speak to you as spiritual people. You are like babies as far as your faith in Christ is concerned. v:2 So I had to treat you like babies and feed you milk. You could not take solid food, and you still cannot, v:3 because you are not yet spiritual. You are jealous and argue with each other. This proves that you are not spiritual and that you are acting like the people of this world."

Spiritual maturity and a biblical understanding inform the believer that satanic lying, deception, disguise, and false moral superiority are forever in constant play in the world at large and in the public servant's state and home community. Only the spiritually discerning can see through all the deception and lies of the physical world. To address it effectively, not be sidetracked by the Devil and his seed (The Tares). Tares want believers to be focused and consumed by worldly concerns, This tactic of Satan is designed to distract you from what is most important! Our struggle is not against flesh and blood!

6. Tares are Sensual

2Pe 2:1-6 (CEV) "Sometimes false prophets spoke to the people of Israel. False teachers will also sneak in and speak harmful lies to you. But these teachers don't really belong to the Master who paid a great price for them, and they will quickly destroy themselves. v:2 Many people will follow their evil ways and cause others to tell lies about the true way. v:3 They will be greedy and cheat you with smooth talk. But long ago God decided to punish them, and God doesn't sleep. v:4 God did not have pity on the angels that sinned. He had them tied up and thrown into the dark pits of hell until the time of judgment. v:5 And during Noah's time, God did not have pity on the ungodly people of the world. He destroyed them with a flood, though he did save eight people, including Noah, who preached the truth. v:6 God punished the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and this is a warning to anyone else who wants to sin."

Peter underscores many of the truths previously identified by Jesus, and his apostles, relative to ascertaining the existence and characteristics of tares. He adds. they follow their sensuality. These are those, who are among you, indicating that tares will be a part of your everyday life. This may be a legislator on the floor who claims to be a "Christian"—but is known for his or her immoral sexual behavior. Scripture is helping you to see people for who they really are! Don’t be fooled! Not everyone who names the name of Christ is the real deal, my friend. Read the study entitled "Saints or Christians - Who are the True Believers?"

Peter said there are those who malign the truth. There are tares among you in your home church, and there are tares among you in your committee rooms! Tares also come in via unequally yoked marriages. Note if one parent is a Child of God, God says "the Children are HOLY" God does not give His true followers Tares. But a husband or wife or extended family member that is overly involved wordily, is likely a Tare; if they are not of your faith and do not want to follow the teachings and doctrines of God's Holy Word. Tares are Satan’s tools, they are HIS seed that he had planted in order to lead you astray and to lead our nation into the pit of hell. Fake clergymen, who preach against clear biblical doctrine and scriptures, may deceive your colleagues, but will they deceive you? As a true believer, do you have the spiritual maturity to not only identify, but also admonish them? Can you, like Jesus, see through their various forms of deception? One glaring evidence herein is their focus on sensuality. Can you say, "Get behind Me, Satan?" Can you bring light to darkness? Can you arrest a Scripture twister and set the record straight? Herein are indications of your own spiritual maturity —or lack thereof.

7. Tares are "Never Wrong"

The Tare heresy being addressed by the Apostle John was Gnosticism. —1Jn 1:8-10 "If we say that we have not sinned, we are fooling ourselves, and the truth isn't in our hearts. v:9 But if we confess our sins to God, He can always be trusted to forgive us and take our sins away. v:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make God a liar, and His message isn't in our hearts." Tares Are Arrogant there is a similar but heightened form of "Pride" that is evidence of false believers: they maintain they are never wrong! They believe they have a superior understanding of the bible more than a True believer has. Characteristic of these types of weeds in the Church is a condescending superiority of sinless self-righteousness. Some tares are so arrogant they believe that they are never wrong! If you know someone who names the name of Christ but is never wrong, be warned: watch out! They’re probably not the real deal! True believers are always characterized by humility and are willing to be corrected. They’ll ask you your opinion and listen.

8. Tares May be Church Leaders

3Jn 1:9-11 (CEV) "I wrote to the church. But Diotrephes likes to be the number-one leader, and he won't pay any attention to us. v:10 So if I come, I will remind him of how he has been attacking us with gossip. Not only has he been doing this, but he refuses to welcome any of the Lord's followers who come by. And when other church members want to welcome them, he puts them out of the church. v:11 Dear friend, don't copy the evil deeds of others! Follow the example of people who do kind deeds. They are God's children, but those who are always doing evil have never seen God." This passage represents the crux reason 3 John is included by the Holy Spirit Scripture. Diotrephes (v. 9) was the head of this church (rather than Christ!). He unilaterally ran the show. Even though he was the church leader, John labeled him as evil. Diotrephes was a tare in full bloom— not a believer. He had sneakily worked his way into the leadership of the ministry! Watch out for controlling legislators, pastors, or board members of Christian organizations who are accusatory and always must be right, never wrong (1 John 1:8). A trademark of tares is that they will attempt to put (you) out! Watch out! John wants you to know they are insincere and, unsaved (though they pretend to be) and want to oversee everything "spiritual!" False "Christian leaders" are normative in the Church!

9. Tares Title Themselves

Rev 2:2 "I know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot tolerate evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and you found them to be false." The tares at the church at Ephesus (to whom this passage is addressed) had given themselves the title of apostles. But Jesus sets the record straight: "they are not.…" John, recording herein what Jesus said to him through an angel Rev 2:2 is commending the Ephesians church for having had the spiritual discernment and courage to deal with tares 1 Tim 1:20 who, among the other things we've learned about them, give themselves fancy titles (and I might add, often times fancy garb and robes!). This passage is a good concluding aspect to suggest that every mature believer should have the training, spiritual discernment, and courage to do likewise: "You call yourself an apostle? You are not!"

Summary

Any of the evidences in the scriptures above; by themselves are not necessarily indicative of the presence of a tare. Every believer struggles with sin to some degree and from time to time. However, when they're all continually present, beware! I pray that you, as a believer, can now better ascertain who the tares are that Satan has put in the path of your life. Will the tares be successful in their demonic mission of discouraging and derailing you? Can you now better discern their presence and purpose? You must identify their existence and purpose in order to keep your distance. The believer's battle is a spiritual one, and he/she needs to see things from the perspective of Eph 6:12. "Our struggle is not against flesh and blood...."

Rev 2:2, John records the fact that the Ephesians church identified and put such persons (Hymenaeus and Alexander) out of their midst –1 Tim 1:20; they were those who called themselves "apostles" but were not! You and I might not have the luxury of doing something as formal as calling someone out for their pretense. But we can be wise by identifying tares and keeping our distance.
